4 Big Reasons WHY the Best Time to be a Stars Wars Fan is NOW!
Star Wars Celebration 2019 brought us tons of new info about what the future of Star Wars will look like. Episode IX finally has a name, The Rise of Skywalker, and trailer. Jedi: Fallen Order appears to be the redemptive installment that EA needs to garner the support from a skeptical gaming community. The Mandalorian is set to be a flagship series during the launch of Disney+ this November. Plus, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is opening at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World before the end of summer. Say what you will, but there has never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan.
The Rise of Skywalker is set to be the absolute end of the original story first released in 1977. Lucasfilm plans to set stories outside of the Skywalker lineage in the upcoming 2 trilogies. So Episode IX has a lot riding on its back. Director JJ Abrams seemed eager to share how much he thought this movie will surpass audience expectations and among other things, offer a fitting onscreen representation of Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa. Opting not to go with a CGI rendering or a recast of the character, Lucasfilm has combed through additional scenes that were not included in the releases of The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi. These scenes were used as inspiration to create a story around that would also help further the overall plot.
The story itself will feature all of this generation’s heroes on a mission together. Finally, we will be able to see how well Rey, Finn, and Poe fare on-screen as a tandem. New Droids, new creatures (I’m looking at you Klaud), and the return of jet packs make it easy to see how the art department is pulling out all the stops to ensure a great experience for the fans. The most notable moments of the teaser trailer were at the very end: the reappearance of a Death Star and the ominous laugh of the Emperor. Those moments make it seem like JJ is truly trying to connect the entire saga as one narrative that holds each trilogy in as high regard as the others.

Electronic Arts currently holds the license for Star Wars video games and has done so for the past six years. In that time we have had only two console releases, Battlefront I & II. Both have had their share of criticism and I don’t intend to cover that, because the most recent news from EA is very promising. Teaming with Respawn, EA is finally going to debut a fully realized single player narrative driven Star Wars game. The game will have a casual melee fighting system that should be easy for any gamer to pick up. The story will follow Cal Kestis as a Jedi survivor during the Jedi purge. The character designs seem like a great mix of the original and prequel trilogies. Let’s just hope it gets EA back on track.

In November of this year, Disney+ will become the next streaming service to offer exclusive content for audiences. With the rise of streaming and the demand of quality content at an all time high, Lucasfilm seems to have risen to the challenge. A pitch from longtime Star Wars fan, Jon Favreau, inspired Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni to help make it a reality. Jon’s idea is to focus on a period of time, 5 years after Return of the Jedi, when the universe is at a civil unrest amidst the falling of the Empire. This period of chaos will spawn a new character: The Mandalorian.
The story will follow the Mandalorian as a lone gunslinger just trying to make his way in the galaxy. The costume design and props have inspiration from the Star Wars Holiday Special. This is a very iconic choice as the show runners want to pay homage to that oft discarded part of Star Wars history while giving it a relevant design considering how Mandalorian culture has been impacted since we have last seen it in Rebels.
The Cast of The Mandalorian
Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian)
Gina Carano (Kara Dune)
Carl Weathers (Greef Karga)

Since first announced years ago, Star Wars and Disney Parks fans alike have had high expectations for what they want. On May 31st and August 31st Galaxy’s Edge will open at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, respectively. When those parks open to the public, Disney Park Imagineers hope that even the most hardcore Star Wars fan is impressed with the level of detail within Batuu. This expansion of the parks will be unique in that it will be a completely separate level of immersion that park guest have yet to experience. Guests will walk the streets as “a part of their own Star Wars story” and may have the opportunity to interact with the world and characters around them. Attractions and dining experiences are designed to fully encompass the Star Wars experience.
The planet Batuu is an Outer Rim location for those trying to avoid any entanglements with the First Order. In addition the the story experience, Black Spire Outpost will host a variety of attractions, dining, and shopping experiences. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is a 6 person interactive ride where you will have a chance to control various operations (pilot, gunner, or flight engineer) in the Falcon as you flee from the First Order. This attraction will open on the same day as the parks themselves unlike the other huge attraction announced: Rise of the Resistance.
Rise of the Resistance is an immersive experience where as a member of the Resistance you will be charged with the task of escaping the First Order while preparing for the unavoidable war ahead. Fleshing out Black Spire Outpost will be dining options such as Oga’s Cantina, Docking Bay 7, and Ronto Roasters. Each dining experience will offer a few unique treats of their own. The Cantina will, of course, be the galactic hub for all specialty drinks, while Docking Bay 7, and Ronto Roasters will offer quick service and grab ’n go options to recharge your hyperdrives while enjoying the sights at Batuu. Also, don’t forget to swing by Savi’s workshop to build your own custom lightsaber!
All in all this year’s Celebration was full of shocks and surprises…far too many to list here. Plus, I haven’t even mentioned the great things happening with The Clone Wars. I guess I’ll save that for another blog. With all the great Star Wars content ahead this year, this truly is the best time to be a Star Wars fan!
